This year, Pioneer sent two local students to Washington D.C. to learn about rural telecommunications. The tour provides a forum for teens to meet and interact with their peers from other rural communities, as well as key legislative, regulatory and government staff. The following sophomores were chosen to represent Pioneer:
Emma and Hailey Matthews are sophomores at Philomath High School. They both play basketball, volleyball, soccer and track. Both are also involved in student leadership, performing arts and the National Honor Society. After high school Emma plans to attend Western Oregon University to pursue a career in special education. She would like to return to her home town and work for the Philomath School District. Hailey plans to attend Oregon State University and major in Paramedic Science. She would like to stay and work in the Philomath area as well. Both of these girls have deep roots in the area and are very involved with their school and their community. They were amazing representatives for Pioneer Telephone on this year’s Youth Tour!
