McCracken   Clichés, Stale Jokes & Puns that, if penned in an English class would result in a C or D, are, if given enough of a twist, perfectly acceptable in cartooning. Make a list of clichés, and mix and match. For instance combine, "Elephants never forget" with "You never forget how to ride a bicycle" and you get this cartoon. Pose the riddle, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" to anyone older than five, and you'll probably get a groan . . . unless that person fell on her head when she was two because she'll change the expected out come. Everyone expects you to say, "Because the chicken wanted to cross the road, but what if the chicken didn't want to cross the road? Now THAT might be funny. And there's always puns, the lowest form of humor next to dead baby jokes, but one of the easiest ways of getting a laugh . . . or a groan.  Pose another childhood riddle: "Why did the fireman wear red suspenders? Because they held up his pants." Taking that phrase too literally can make it funny. "Columbus sailed the ocean red in 1998?" "42 days hath February?"   Bike Cartoon 6724: A bike racer says to an elephant who's just fallen off a bicycle: "Sure elephants never forget. You can't even remember how to ride a bicycle."   Chicken Cartoon 7385: A chicken in front of a "Chicken Crossing" sign pushing another into the road saying, "It's your turn. I crossed the road yesterday."   Water Skiing Cartoon 7656: "Poultry in Motion" Chickens drive a boat and water ski.   Fire Cartoon 1754: Fireman to one who's pants have fallen down: "That's what you get for wearing blue suspenders instead of red.
